Huni Kuin indigenous people of the Amazon

The product of a seven-year project in Brazil. The film tells the story of the Huni Kuin indigenous people, who live deep in the western Amazon of Acre, Brazil, as they return to their ancestral and spiritual way of life by reconnecting with their own culture and identity. In the heart of the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest, the Huni Kuin indigenous people are experiencing a rebirth of their identity after decades of slavery and oppression, since the time when they were captured in the forests and forbidden from living their culture. It was only from the year 2000 onwards that the Huni Kuin of the Humaitá Indigenous Land began to remember who they were, coming together to recall their culture and their ancestral, spiritual way of life. After more than 20 years of strengthening under the guidance of spiritual leader Ninawá Pai da Mata, the communities of the Humaitá Indigenous Land are today living through a cultural peak. Why This Matters — and How You Can Help. Click here for more information

Supporting projects such as the Associação Centro Huwã Karu Yuxibu is not charity alone. It is an act of collective reparation and shared healing — a way of helping to restore dignity, autonomy, cultural continuity and territorial protection for peoples who have safeguarded the forest, and the climate stability on which all life depends, for countless generations.

Financial contributions may help support:

  • Protection and maintenance of Indigenous cultural practices
  • Traditional medicine and spiritual education projects
  • Sustainable bioconstruction and agroforestry initiatives
  • Youth cultural transmission and the preservation of the Hatxa Kuin language
  • Intercultural educational exchanges
  • Forest protection and community autonomy
  • Infrastructure for ceremonies, gatherings and traditional learning
  • Emergency response for Huni Kuin villages affected by the increasingly severe Amazonian flood and drought cycles — including the historic 2024 flooding of the municipality of Jordão. At a time when much of the world searches for reconnection, balance and ecological wisdom, peoples such as the Huni Kuin continue to carry living knowledge rooted in reciprocity with nature, collective care and a spiritual relationship with the Earth. To support authentic Indigenous initiatives is to help preserve living cultures that humanity quite simply cannot afford to lose.
