On January 14th and 15th I will give the empowerment for the short Padmasambhava practice that some of you are already practising.

The purpose of the initiation is to connect you to the vital presence of Padmasambhava so that through finding your identity with him you will be able to awaken to your true nature. This tantric practice transforms the limited forms of samsaric existence into the radiance of the Buddhas’ compassion by bringing us into our own unlimited source.

The source is open, empty and intrinsically pure, as symbolised by the lotus or padma arising unsullied from the muddy lake. This pure potential manifests as the diverse forms of Padmasambhava, who is also known as Guru Rinpoche, the precious guru who shows us our truth. The apparitional form of the Guru can show us directly the apparitional nature of all appearance. For this to occur we need faith and devotion so that our intrinsic simplicity can open to the intrinsic simplicity of the mandala of the Buddhas. Devotion is the effective method of side-stepping the domain of ego-judgement, opinion, and apartness. All our obscurations will fall away when we cease to identify with them. Samsara is not a place or a static positioning. Samsara is the energy of the source misperceived through our dualistic orientation.

To prepare for the initiation, I suggest you read Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 of my book, Simply Being.  These chapters are being made available for you on my website.  You can also strengthen your connection with the practice by reading my book Lotus Source and my book Being Guru Rinpoche which has been translated into French, German, Polish and Spanish.

Each stage of the initiation will be explained so that you can participate fully. Traditionally initiations were given face to face.  In these challenging times we will make use of Zoom.  We must all trust the power of Padmasambhava to ensure that we are authentically empowered to do the practice.

This is a rare opportunity and so if you wish to receive the empowerment you need to make arrangements to attend for the entire two days.

The practice text will be available for you to download after the main initiation on Saturday.
