…This transmission comes to us from Garab Dorje. According to the tradition, he was not a human being, although he appeared in the form of a human being with a body of light. Of course, we actually all have a body of light and in Garab Dorje’s case, when he was passing from this world, he rose into the sky and spoke from a cloud of rainbow light and made these Three Statements which are the focus of this text. This was received by Manjushrimitra who later handed them to Padmasambhava. They have since come down to us through both open lineages and terma lineages…
…We learn to trust that everything required is immediately manifesting. If we stay in the moment, everything we need is there…
…When you take iron ore out of the ground, you have to refine it. This teaching doesn’t need any refining. It’s pure in the beginning and if you try to refine it by adding your own thoughts, you will be introducing impurity.
For Western people this is probably more difficult to understand than for Tibetans, because we are educated to believe that we have to have creative thoughts. This is not at all what this text says. It says, “Don’t take refuge in thoughts, feelings, sensations. Take refuge in the mind itself.”
You won’t find your mind by reading books about dzogchen. You will find it by sitting in silence with yourself, allowing how you are to reveal itself…
